If you feel that you are able to clean affected areas on your own these are a few tips that may help. Although, remember the task of cleaning up after a fire can be very overwhelming. This is something that is covered by your insurance company and our cleaning specialists are trained for this exact situation.

  • Clothing items should be given to a clothing and garment restoration company. In most cases they are able to return emergency clothing items within a few hours.
  • If you are concerned about your plants or flowers that were in the area of a fire, bring them outside (if temperature permits) or to a clean environment. Carefully wash both sides of the leaves with plain water to remove smoke particles. Again our cleaning crew can help you with this task.
  • If the area is completely dry, you can vacuum carpeted areas. Make sure your vacuum has a HEPA filter to prevent particles from reentering the air. Lindstrom’s also provides carpet-cleaning services that will in most cases take care of carpeted areas.
  • Do NOT attempt to wash walls or ceilings. These need to be cleaned with special chemicals and sponges that will take the particles off of the walls. In many cases the walls will then have to be painted to cover the discoloration that smoke and soot can cause.
  • Change your air filters to help eliminate the smoke smell and help trap particles from reentering back into the air. It may also be helpful to place cheesecloth or another thick fabric  over vents to capture particles from entering into the home or business.
